Interested and qualified Nigerians are invited to attend the 2023/2024 Nomination Interview for the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Award for the following:
I Undergraduate (UG) Studies are available in the following countries: Russia, Cuba, Romania, Ukraine, Japan, Algeria, Morocco, Serbia, Hungary, Egypt, Tunisia, Turkey; and
ii) Postgraduate (PG) Studies tenable in China, Hungary, Serbia, Turkey, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, etc. (for those whose first degrees were earned from such countries).
A Director serves as the Secretary of the Federal Scholarship Board (FSB), a Department of the Federal Ministry of Education. As implied by the name and terminology, it has no governing board.
THE MANDATE OF THE BOARD IS AS FOLLOWS:
Policy Development – Development of recurring master plans for the equitable and effective distribution of local and international fellowships to deserving Nigerian undergraduate and graduate students.
Consultations with state governments, foreign affairs ministries, and other pertinent authorities and entities may occasionally be necessary in this regard.
implementation of federal government policies and initiatives for giving meritorious Nigerian academics rewards for local and international scholarships.
Implementation of Federal Government commitments to Commonwealth and Multilateral Agreements on Scholarship and Fellowship Awards to Nigeria and the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA).
implementation of the NYSC EX-Corps Scholarship and the Presidential Special Scholarship for Innovation and Development (PRESSID).
Data gathering, compiling, analysis, publishing, and distribution about student issues, scholarship and fellowship awards related to Nigeria.
supervision and tracking of federal government scholars’ activities both domestically and internationally in tertiary institutions.
through yearly meetings of the secretaries of the federal and state scholarship boards, advising and coordinating state scholarship policies and programs.
THE BOARD OPERATES UNDER FOUR (4) DIVISIONS AS FOLLOWS:
- Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA);
- Nigerian Awards;
- Commonwealth Scholarship & Fellowship Plan; and
- General Duties
2.0 All qualified candidates are advised to:
a. Go to www.education.gov.ng, the website of the Federal Ministry of Education, and click on the READ MORE button next to the Federal Scholarship Board ICON on the Home Page:
b. Read the instructions before completing the online application form.
b. Print the Application Form after completion.
d. Present two complete sets of the printed application forms at the interview location by the time allotted below.
NOTE: Double entries will result in disqualification.
FIELDS OF STUDY
Engineering, Geology, Agriculture, Sciences, Mathematics, Languages, Environmental Sciences, Sports, Law, Social Sciences, Biotechnology, Architecture, Medicine (very restricted), etc. are all available at the undergraduate level; and
b. Postgraduate standing (Master’s and Doctoral degrees) in all subjects.
4.0 CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY
A. UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS:
All applicants for undergraduate degree programs must have at least five (5) Distinctions (As and Bs) in the WAEC (May/June) exclusively in the subjects pertinent to their fields of study, including English Language and Mathematics.
For non-African countries, certificates should not be older than two (2) years (2021 & 2022) and should only be one (1) year old (2020) for African nations.
The age range is between 17 and 20.
B. POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS:
Every applicant for a course leading to an undergraduate degree must have a first degree with at least a 2nd class upper division.
The applicants who have previously received foreign awards must have worked in Nigeria for at least two (2) years after receiving their degree or diploma. N.Y.S.C. must have been completed by all candidates. The maximum age for a master’s degree is 35, and for a doctorate, it is 40.
I Only certificates of discharge or exemption from the N.Y.S.C. are allowed;
ii) Proof that you are prepared to be let go by your employer.
NOTE (For all Applicants):
All applicants for the Hungarian Scholarship can apply for up to two fields of study in order of preference, and must visit the website www.stipendiumhungaricum.hu, which was opened in the middle of November and will close on January 16, 2023.
Since the BEA countries are non-English speaking, applicants should be prepared to take a mandatory one-year foreign language course of the Country of choice, which will be the standard medium of instruction.
All applicants for Russia should visit the website https://education-in-Russia.com/, which will open in November, to complete the online application.
All applicants must have received their first degree in Russia in order to be eligible for the Russian Postgraduate Scholarship. All applicants must also upload the following certificates online: UNDERGRADUATE (UG): WAEC/WASSCE POSTGRADUATE (PG): 1st Degree Certificate, Masters Degree WAEC/WASSCE, Indigene letter, and NYSC discharge certificate.
NB: Candidates nominated by the Board will be required to submit to Federal Scholarship Board the following:
- Authenticated copies of academic certificates;
- Data page of the current International passport;
- Specified Medical Reports from Government hospitals;
- Birth Certificate & Indigene letter
- Police Clearance Certificate where necessary.
